GrandMaster Bauer

Renshi Vincent Tait has announced that GrandMaster Gunter Bauer, 10th Dan Hapkido/CQC (close quarter combat) will be teaching at the KSD/NBA Bushi Martial Arts Seminar in Thurso, Caithness, on Saturday 21st April 2012! As always, this event is for NBA members and invited guests.

GrandMaster Bauer, who lives in England, is a dear friend of mine and a Korean Martial Arts specialist... both of us took a black belt exam together in London many years ago. I'm looking forward to seeing him again and for NBA members to train with him!

Sensei Kevin Blyth, 1st Dan, will be taking over the running of the SKA Kempo dojo at Dingwall Leisure Centre from Friday 11th November as Shihan Alan Milne has secured a job which is based outside the Highlands. Many thanks to Shihan for running the dojo through the years after taking it over from Shihan Helen Beattie.

I will miss Shihan Milne's assistance at our Inverness dojo, however, here's wishing him all the very best for the future and we look forward to seeing him at classes and seminars when he can attend!

12th Budo Gathering

Renshi Jens Bonde, Professor Henrik Nilsson and Master Lee Sansum

Where do I start when blogging about the 12th Scottish Kempo Academy / Northern Budo Alliance Budo Gathering which was held at Hilton Community Centre in Inverness on Saturday... If you are a NBA member and didn't make it along you certainly missed a fantastic Self-Defence event which featured: Renshi Jens Bonde, 4th Dan (Sweden), Sihing Stephen Hassan (Scotland), Master Lee Sansum, 7th Dan (Scotland) and Professor Henrik Nilsson, 9th Dan (Sweden) teaching JuJitsu, Boxing, Military Tactics, Kickboxing, Bodyguarding Skills and Wing Tsun Kung Fu.

Participants received an attendance certificate signed by the guest instructors at the end of the seminar and everyone had a great day, they went home tired but with a deeper knowledge of the various Martial Arts. Many thanks to all the instructors and students who attended!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the Northern Budo Alliance is now the largest Martial Arts organisation in Northern Scotland and I look forward to the next NBA event which will be the Bushi Martial Arts Seminar in Caithness next April!

WMAS President

Professor Henrik Nilsson (pictured right) last visited Scotland in 2001 when he took part in the 1st World Martial Arts Society (WMAS) seminar.

I founded the WMAS that year and ran it for a few years building the foundation until I handed it over to Professor Henrik Nilsson, who is the current President of the organisation.

Some participants at Saturday's seminar purchased his Swedish Combat book, Ki (energy) pamphlet and WMAS DVD which are interesting materials!

Shihan and Professor

Pictured at Saturday's Self-Defence event in Inverness is Shihan Helen Beattie and Professor Henrik Nilsson. Shihan Beattie is making good progress after her near-fatal brain collapse last November and was a great help at the seminar with registrations, certifications and other management duties.

Sihing Stephen Hassan

Me and Sihing Stephen Hassan, former Commonwealth Boxing Champion

Quality Kung Fu and Boxing techniques were taught by Sihing Stephen Hassan at yesterday's event in Inverness! Sihing Hassan is Sije Oana Stan's partner and ably stood-in for Sije as she has Martial Arts filming duties in Germany this weekend.

Master Lee Sansum

I'm delighted to announce that at yesterday's Martial Arts event in Inverness, Master Lee Sansum and his organisation: Sansum Black Belt Academy, became members of the Northern Budo Alliance! I welcome Master Sansum and his students to the NBA and look forward to further input from Master Sansum in his role as a NBA Technical Advisor!

The NBA is now the North of Scotland's largest Martial Arts organisation with over 600 members!

Congratulations go to Sensei Brian Mearns, 3rd Dan Karate, who was promoted by Hanshi Jean Chalamon (9th Dan Black Belt Shorinji-Ryu, France) as the President of the Butokukai in Scotland! The post was announced at last weekend's Northern Budo Alliance/Club Karate Skye Budo Seminar.
